Journey into one of Africa's most culturally rich regions - the Omo Valley, home to over 16 distinct ethnic groups who have preserved their ancestral traditions for millennia. This expedition takes you to meet the Hamer, Mursi, Karo, and other tribes, each with unique customs, body art, and ceremonies.

Witness the famous bull jumping ceremony (seasonal), visit local markets where tribes gather to trade, and learn about traditional crafts, jewelry, and body painting. Your cultural guide will facilitate respectful interactions and explain the complex social structures.

Travel by 4x4 vehicle through remote landscapes, camp along the Omo River, and experience the warm hospitality of local communities. This responsible tourism expedition directly benefits the communities you visit through fair compensation and cultural preservation efforts.

Your Itinerary

D1
Depart early for Arba Minch. In the afternoon, ascend the Chencha Mountains to visit the Dorze people. Famous for their beehive-shaped bamboo houses and sophisticated weaving, the Dorze will demonstrate "Kocho" bread preparation from false banana trees. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset view over Lakes Abaya and Chamo.
D2
Take a morning boat trip on Lake Chamo to witness the "Crocodile Market," where massive Nile crocodiles and hippos congregate. Later, drive toward Jinka. If it's a Thursday, stop at the Key Afer market, a vibrant crossroads for the Benna, Ari, and Tsemai tribes to trade cattle and honey.
D3
Journey into the rugged terrain of Mago National Park. You will visit a Mursi village, renowned for the clay plates the women wear in their lower lips. This is a profound opportunity to learn about their nomadic lifestyle, body scarring traditions, and the significance of their cattle wealth in their social hierarchy.
D4
Head to Turmi, the heartland of the Hamer people. The Hamer are famous for their "Bull Jumping" rite of passage. Visit a local village to see the women’s distinctive ochre-rubbed hair and leather skirts. If a ceremony is occurring, you may witness the rhythmic dancing and traditional celebrations of the community
